چکیده
We have followed the evolution of multi-mass star clusters containing massive central black holes by N-body simulations on the GRAPE6 computers of Tokyo University. We find a strong cluster expansion and significant structural changes of the clusters. Clusters with IMBHs have power-law density profiles ρ ∼ r −α with slopes α = 1.55 inside the influence sphere of the central black hole. This leads to a constant density profile of bright stars in projection, which rules out the presence of intermediate mass black holes in core collapse clusters. If the star clusters are surrounded by a tidal field, a central IMBH speeds up the destruction of the cluster until a remnant of a few hundred stars remains, which stays bound to the IMBH for a long time. We also discuss the efficiency of different detection mechanisms for finding IMBHs in star clusters.

The mathematical simplicity of black holes, combined with their links to some of the most energetic events in the universe, means that black holes are key objects for fundamental physics and astrophysics. Until recently, it was generally believed that black holes in nature appear in two broad mass ranges: stellar-mass (M ∼ 3 − 20M⊙), which are produced by the core collapse of massive stars, and...

Jets and winds are significant channels for energy loss from accreting black holes. These outflows mechanically heat their surroundings, through shocks as well as gentler forms of heating. We discuss recent efforts to understand the nature and distribution of mechanical heating by central AGNs in clusters of galaxies, using numerical simulations and analytic models. Specifically, we will discus...

The nature of the ultraluminous X–ray sources (ULX) is still to be understood. Several hypotheses have been suggested to explain the high X–ray luminosity: stellar mass black holes with emission collimated by relativistic effects or anisotropies in the accretion disk, intermediate mass black holes, young supernovae remnants, background active galactic nuclei. To discriminate among the above hyp...

Phase transitions in the early universe are prime settings for the production of primordial black holes, since they can break the relatively quiescent homogeneity and isotropy of Friedmann–Robertson–Walker (FRW) cosmologies. These epochs of “symmetry breaking,” moreover, can affect the subsequent development of spacetime by changing the evolution of some FRW parameters, including the present ag...
